Clean Energy, Brighter Future, Stronger Community
About
Just 46 km outside Springbok in the Nama Khoi Municipal area of the Northern Cape Province, Kangnas Wind Farm has been operational since November 2020. Comprising 61 turbines with a total generation capacity of 140 MW, the wind farm delivers more than 500,000 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity each year — enough to power approximately 155,000 South African homes, via the national grid.
Covering 3,591 hectares of agricultural land, the project operates efficiently with minimal water usage and is expected to avoid around 11 million tonnes of carbon emissions over its 20-year operational lifespan.
Beyond electricity production, Kangnas Wind Farm supports local socio-economic development through enterprise growth, skills training, and education programmes in local schools and other community initiatives that promote long-term sustainability.
The project is operated by Infinity Power South Africa, with Siemens Wind Power contracted to provide operations and maintenance services under a 20-year agreement.

Community
As members of the community of Springbok, we are committed to contributing to sustainable community growth through financial and non-financial community development initiatives. We achieve this by donating a percentage of our total revenue to the community through Socio-Economic Development (2.8%) and Enterprise Development (0.2%).
Our SED and ED programmes address a wide range of local needs, including academic support programmes and early childhood development initiatives that help to alleviate illiteracy and increase participation in STEM subjects. Added to this, healthcare initiatives, community awareness campaigns, infrastructure development, women’s empowerment, and youth are also addressed.
We also support the growth and sustainability of local enterprises—particularly owned by previously disadvantaged people, with BBB-EE Recognition Levels, women-owned vendors and QSEs and EMEs—through funding, training, and skills development.
Community Trust
The Kangnas Renewable Energy Community Trust owns a 2.5% share of the wind farm. This ownership was established through loans from the Development Bank of South Africa (50%) and the company shareholders (50%). Once the loans have been repaid, the trust will invest in community education, health, agriculture, sports and culture, and social welfare development.
