Job Description: Biodiversity Monitor
Location: Kangnas Wind Farm, Springbok, 8240
The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct operational bird and bat monitoring at the wind facility as mentioned above. The program is inclusive of bird and bat monitoring, carcass searches, searcher efficiency trails and carcass persistence trails, adhering to standardized protocols as trained, being part of a small field crew and keeping detailed datasheets and observations.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
▪ Senior Certificate (or NQF equivalent) and/or higher education would be preferred.
▪ Must read, write and speak English fluently (Afrikaans and other languages will be an advantage).
▪ Must have the basic knowledge on how to operate a camera and GPS.
▪ Must be mentally and physically fit, and in good health.
▪ Must be able to walk long distances in rough terrain, in all weather conditions.
▪ Hard worker and honesty are a prerequisite.
THE FOLLOWING WILL SERVE AS AN ADVANTAGE:
▪ Firefighting Certificate
▪ First-Aid Certificate
▪ A valid Driver’s License
▪ Computer literate (MS Excel & Word)
JOB DESCRIPTION OF A BIODIVERSITY MONITOR:
▪ Biodiversity Monitors will search in a set area under each turbine for dead/injured birds & bats, or any other duties required for operations.
