EMPOWERING NAMA KHOI ADULTS WITH DIGITAL SKILLS |
May 2025.
For many adults in the Nama Khoi Municipal area, navigating the digital world has long felt out of reach, especially for those who didn’t grow up with access to technology. Recognising this gap, Kangnas Wind Farm, in partnership with Namakwa Supply and Training (NS-Training), launched a computer literacy programme aimed at empowering adults aged 36 and above. The programme not only builds confidence in using technology but also equips individuals with the tools needed to participate in today’s digital economy.
Benefitting 20 community members, this initiative is designed to meet participants at their individual skill levels. Before training began, instructors conducted assessments to tailor content to each participant’s needs, ensuring maximum engagement and benefit from the sessions.
Rozina Cloete, owner of Blommetjies Funeral Services and a participant in the programme, expressed her gratitude, “We would like to thank Kangnas Wind Farm for the opportunity they provided us through the computer training course. Even though we only had a few sessions, I learned so much. As one of the ‘BBTs’ (Born Before Technology), I didn’t grow up with computers. But now I don’t have to depend on my employees for digital tasks. I can be independent and manage my business more effectively. The course has helped me tremendously.”
Facilitated by NS-Training, a former recipient of Kangnas Wind Farm’s Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) grant, the training covered foundational to intermediate computer skills. Participants were introduced to vital software applications, equipping them with the tools necessary to operate confidently in today’s digital world.
“This training forms part of our broader commitment to sustainable development and economic inclusion in Springbok and the surrounding areas. By equipping community members with essential digital competencies, the programme aims to improve employability, support local entrepreneurship, and stimulate long-term economic growth,” stated Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm.
