In Springbok, 135 Grade 12 learners are taking real steps towards their futures. A few learners have already received responses to their university, college and bursary applications — real progress, made possible through a Career Guidance Programme that is helping learners navigate the application process and make informed decisions about their options for further study and future careers.
“The support we received made a real difference to us as Grade 12 learners. We were encouraged to consider further studies and shown that there are opportunities and a future ahead. The team was friendly, approachable and always willing to help. They truly opened doors for us, and we are very grateful for the support and opportunity,” said Chelsea Swartz, Deputy Head Girl, St. Anna Private School
Behind this progress is a dedicated team of eight local women, who work directly with learners to guide them through the application process. The team brings together two representatives from Khaus Development, three former Kangnas Wind Farm interns, and three students — a mix of experience and lived understanding that helps learners feel supported every step of the way.
Due to the sessions taking place after school hours, lunch is provided to both learners and the women facilitating the programme.
“Access to career guidance and application support can be the difference between a learner continuing their education and not. We want to make sure that no young person in our community misses that opportunity simply because they didn’t know where to start,” said Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm, the programme funders
Learners from three schools have already received assistance, including eight learners from Nababeep High School, five from Concordia High School and two from High School Namaqualand. Further sessions are scheduled at St. Anna Private School and Okiep High School, where learners will also receive support with university, college and bursary applications.
