INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT PROMOTES QUALITY EDUCATION |
May 2024.
To promote quality education by supporting local schools within Namaqualand with infrastructure upgrades and maintenance, a local wind farm partnered with Dr Izak Van Niekerk Primary School to build a multipurpose school hall. This hall will serve as a space for various school and community activities, including school assemblies, fundraising events, and community gatherings, thereby providing an additional source of income for the school.
Initiated in 2022, this collaborative effort between Kangnas Wind Farm and Dr Izak Van Niekerk Primary School underscores the wind farm’s commitment to community development, particularly in regards to education.
“Recognising the pressing need for improved infrastructure at Dr Izak Van Niekerk Primary School, we embraced the opportunity to enhance the learning environment for learners and educators alike. By investing in the construction of a multipurpose school hall and supporting essential facility upgrades, we are dedicated to creating an educational environment that inspires creativity, fosters growth, and empowers learners and staff,” said Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm.
The wind farm provided funding for the construction of ablution facilities, the installation of sewer systems, and the ceiling. In 2023, further funding was allocated by the wind farm to complete the flooring (tiling).
Mr. Randall Peters, Principal at Dr Izak Van Niekerk Primary School, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kangnas Wind Farm for their unwavering support. The generous funding has transformed our school, from the completion of our school hall to the meticulous finishing of flooring and tiling in our ablution blocks. Your ongoing support ensures our students thrive in a conducive learning environment, shaping a brighter future for generations to come. Thank you for believing in our mission and investing in our community’s education.”.
Under the leadership of the school principal and the senior governing body team, the school was able to secure additional financial support from various stakeholders. The contributions from the local community, Department of Education, Department of Public Works, Nama Khoi, Northern Cape Provincial Gambling Board and local mines have been instrumental in propelling this project forward.
With only one final phase remaining, the project is on track to reach completion by end 2025, paving the way for educational excellence and community empowerment in the area.
