 Job Description: Biodiversity Monitor 

Location: Kangnas Wind Farm, Springbok, 8240 

The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct operational bird and bat monitoring at the wind facility as mentioned above. The program is inclusive of bird and bat monitoring, carcass searches, searcher efficiency trails and carcass persistence trails, adhering to standardized protocols as trained, being part of a small field crew and keeping detailed datasheets and observations. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: 

Senior Certificate (or NQF equivalent) and/or higher education would be preferred. 

Must read, write and speak English fluently (Afrikaans and other languages will be an advantage). 

Must have the basic knowledge on how to operate a camera and GPS. 

Must be mentally and physically fit, and in good health. 

Must be able to walk long distances in rough terrain, in all weather conditions. 

Hard worker and honesty are a prerequisite.

Economic Development Intern x2

The Economic Development Officer Intern will provide administrative support to the Project Office, as part of the point of contact for the local community, as well as assisting the Economic Development Manager (ED Manager) when distributing key project information. This role will provide a learning environment for the Intern to develop skills in community engagement, procurement and project implementation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Project Officer as front-line point of contact for the Project Company in the project office during the operations phase.
  • Assist Audit and Procurement Officer in provide documentation as required by external auditors timeously.
  • Assist Audit and Procurement Officer with preparing procurement forms.
  • Provide information to Public Relations team for all articles and newsletter information.
  • Organise radio interviews.
  • Assist in distribution of reports, project information and newsletters.
  • Support the ED team with implementation of projects.
  • Provide support to the Project Officer to administer the grievance mechanism on the ground.
  • Building strong relationships with all relevant local partners/stakeholders/authorities/ communities/ businesses/ local government and local media.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with and has open and transparent communication between all members of the team to ensure a healthy working environment is maintained.
  • Assist in organising community meetings, focussed group sessions and key informant interviews with various stakeholders.

  • Engages regularly with beneficiaries / service providers to gain relevant information regarding the initiatives and to monitor their impact.

Requirements:

  • Higher Certificate / Diploma in relevant field
  • Previous exposure to office environment will be beneficial.

Internship – South Africa Wind Energy Association (SAWEA)

The South Africa Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) in partnership with Kangnas Wind Farm, is excited to announce that Wind Industry Internship Programme (WIIP) will be running for the second time in 2023. WIIP first launched in 2022 January, where 15 interns were placed and mentored by SAWEA member organisations for a period of 12 months. This current process will however be running for the first time through the Kangnas Wind Farm and we are excited to open it up to the Springbok community. The WIIP internship offers hands-on experience to exceptional South African students who are committed to building a career in renewable wind energy. The purpose of the WIIP is to provide young professionals who have any tertiary education, including N4, NQF level 5 – 6 in Engineering: Energy, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Civil, with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies and interests, and to expose them to work that is related to sustainable energy. 

The students will be working alongside the Kangnas Wind Farm’s Operational Team, being exposed to various tasks and activities in and around the wind farm. The 2023 applications have been reopened to ensure maximum participation and young aspiring professionals are encouraged to apply. 

Please note: The program is sponsored and ran by SAWEA, all applications will have to go through the SEWEA website and not submitted to the Kangnas Wind Farm or the team. ED Project Officer Intern – Kangnas

Company Overview:

Kangnas Wind Farm, situated outside of Springbok, in the Northern Cape’s Nama Khoi Municipal area, commenced operations during November 2020. The wind farm delivers 140MW’s of clean renewable power from its sixty-one wind turbines.

This project is beneficial in addressing the ongoing and increasing need for clean electricity in South Africa, and positively impacts the country’s economy and people, with a particular focus on communities within a 50km radius of the wind farm. 

Kangnas Wind Farm generates around 513 200 MWh/year of clean renewable energy per year. This is enough clean, green electricity to power up to 154 625 South African homes.

Kangnas Wind Farm eliminates approximately 550,000 tons of carbon emissions each year when compared to traditional fossil fuel power plants. In addition to zero carbon emissions and reduced use of fossil fuels, the country benefits from almost zero water consumption that is required during the generation process.

Summary of Role:

RFP FOR GRANT ADMINISTRATION SERVICE

MAMSA hereby invites interested and experienced service providers to participate in a Request for Proposal (RFP) process for a Grants Administration Service, for the project Company’s Socio-Economic and Enterprise Development programmes (Community Driven Projects).

The Perdekraal East and Kangnas Wind Farms, seek the services of a suitably experienced and qualified Service Provider who can make provision of a comprehensive payment and administration service for a period of up to three (3) years, renewable annually to pay Enterprise Development and Socio-Economic Development funding Grantees engaged in funding programmes of the Project Company within the communities as stated below.

The service is required for two (2) of MAMSA’s operational wind farms.

Tenderers may elect to submit proposals for all two (2) projects/wind farms, or any project they might be interested in.

Project Companies:

  1. Perdekraal East Windfarm -Ceres, Bella vista, Nduli, Prince Alfred Hamlet and the Farming community in Ward 12 towards the wind farm, Western Cape
  2. Kangnas Windfarm, Bergsig, Matjieskloof, Springbok, Carolusberg, Fontyntjie, Concordia, Okiep and Nababeep-Northern Cape
