INSPIRING AND EMPOWERING YOUTH

June 2023.

Fifteen young people from Springbok, who form part of the Beyond Matric Programme, took part in a three-day event. The commemorative occasion kicked off with a trip to the nearby Kangnas Wind Farm, culminating in a Youth Day event, on 16 June 2023, marked by spirited games, held at the Springbok Sports Ground, in collaboration with the Department of Sports Arts and Culture.

Funded by the wind farm, and taking place from 13 to 16 June 2023, the programme provided opportunities for youth to explore career choices, develop essential skills, and foster a sense of community.

“Through these initiatives, we aim to play a pivotal role in empowering youth and contributing to a sustainable and inclusive future. Moreover, our asset-based development approach recognises and appreciates the strengths, potentials, and capacities within communities, empowering individuals to shape their own development and create lasting change,” said Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm.

The festivities kicked off with an enlightening site visit to the wind farm, with Plant Manager Brenda Sidaki and her team conducting an informative session on career choices in renewable energy. This was followed by a workshop on work readiness and included a focus on the art of crafting compelling CVs. Participants gained valuable insights and practical guidance to enhance their employability and present themselves effectively to potential employers.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate in this workshop, as it has equipped me with essential skills necessary to navigate the working environment successfully. I especially enjoyed the work readiness workshop and learning how to build a professional and formal CV,” expressed Jadeley Magerman, a participant in the programme.
